* Poor Mr. Baby had a stomach bug yesterday. And we learned that he prefers to stand while he pukes. Six out of 8 times, he would wiggle out of my arms to get into a standing position before clearing out his belly. He'd stand up, wobble around a little bit, turn green, and emit a splashy fountain of nastiness. The last two times, the poor kid was so exhausted that he couldn't even manage to sit up, much less stand, making a big mess of his hair and crib. I did a lot of hot-water laundry. And then, snap!, it was over and he slept comfortably through the night. He was back to 100% this a.m.
* The above episode made me grateful yet again for our wood floors.
* Finn had his first cavity filled today. Turns out it was not a result of poor dental hygiene, but a naturally-caused cavity in the actual tooth itself. The dentist said he sees it every once in awhile, and that the hole was filled "with brown dust." Gag. The boy was a trooper, though, and only cried a little bit during the Novocaine shot.
* Christmas Spirit, where are you? Get in here. I need you.
* We are going to a holiday party this weekend, and I am dressing up, dammit. It's not very often anymore that I get to put on a fancy dress. I'm wearing a form-fitting lightweight black wool number with a sweetheart neckline, cap sleeves and just-below-the-knee pencil skirt, paired with 4-inch green heels. And plenty o' Spanx and red lipstick.
* This weekend, we (i.e., Jon) repaid our neighbors for some pet-watching by cooking them dinner. He made them smoked leg of lamb with harissa; taboulleh; roasted sweet dumpling squash stuffed with couscous, dried fruit, feta and toasted almonds; and baklava. I sampled as he went along and it was really pretty delicious. I am one lucky girl; there are leftovers.
* Jon and I are foregoing Christmas gifts for each other this year. There is just too much other stuff (stuff we call "bills") that we are worrying about. So we'll do presents for the boys and call it good. However, we do have one ace up our sleeve -- an already-paid-for overnight stay at the Salishan Lodge out on the coast. So once we have the time to go and someone willing to spend the night at our place to mind the boys, we will take off for a solid 36 hours.
